Going Green Tips For Earth Day

One of the greatest things about Earth Day is that you get to focus on the environment, do your part for the planet, and save money along the way. Going green doesn’t have to be a chore, and it certainly doesn’t mean you have to change your lifestyle.

In fact, with these simple tips for going green from our experts here at Knight Plumbing Inc., you can do your part for the Earth this April 22 and every other day, and you won’t even have to change your habits.

1. Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with Simple Changes

There are plenty of common activities that contribute to a larger carbon footprint, including driving, flying, buying plastic products, and using energy.

Ways to reduce your carbon footprint for the health of the planet include:

  • driving less
  • biking and walking more
  • buying recycled products
  • reusing products
  • avoiding plastics and overly packaged consumer goods
  • using alternative energy sources, such as wind, solar, and geothermal

2. Go Tankless to Save the Earth

Conventional storage-tank water heaters are bad for the environment because they waste energy, they're not as efficient as their modern replacements, and they're always struggling to keep water hot when you don’t need it.

To save the Earth, and a few bucks along the way, switch to a tankless water heater that will:

  • Provide hot water on demand
  • Never heat water you don’t need
  • Last up to 20 years
  • Operate using 30 percent less energy
  • Save money and energy
  • Never run out of hot water

3. Stop Buying Bottled Water

When you put in a whole-home water filtration system, you're guaranteeing that your family will always have access to the cleanest and purest water possible. Whether they're in the shower, in the kitchen, washing clothes, or getting a drink from the tap.

And if you always want to make sure you have refreshingly cold water for drinking, then all you have to do is fill a jug and keep it in the refrigerator.

But how will this help the environment? By eliminating bottled water from landfills, reducing your carbon footprint, and ensuring that your family isn't buying products that use millions of barrels of oil each year from plastic production.

4. Upgrade Your Kitchen and Bathroom with Eco-Conscious Fixtures

Next time you go to the hardware store, take a look at the toilets, faucets, and shower heads. While they may all seem the same to you, take a closer look at the numbers on the box, and you'll see why water-smart plumbing fixtures are so important.

Similarly, with water-efficient shower heads, you'll only use 2.5 gallons of water per minute as opposed to 8. Water-saving faucets are also a great investment that will lower the flow rate, and you can maximize your water conservation by installing a motion-activated faucet at the same time.

Earth Day is an important international observance, and at Knight Plumbing, Inc., we’re pleased to be able to participate in the festivities this year and to help spread the word about ways to go green.
